Biography

Louise Kennefick specialises in criminal law, criminal justice, criminology and mental health law. She completed her doctoral thesis at University College Cork in 2011. She is the recipient of the IRC Postgraduate Scholarship (2008-2011), the Aiden Synnott Bursary Prize, University College Cork (2008), the IRC ‘New Ideas’ Award (2011/12) for her work on the insanity and diminished responsibility defences in Ireland, in addition to a Short-term Scientific Mission Award from the European Co-operation in Science and Technology Network for her research in the area of offender supervision. Louise is a qualified solicitor with three years' experience in practice in London and Edinburgh, in general commercial law, litigation and corporate law. She is particularly interested in interdisciplinary research and the reconciliation of criminal law theory with practice. She teaches criminal law and criminology at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Louise welcomes research proposals in the areas of criminal law, criminal justice, criminology and mental health law.
