Niamh Fortune

Biography

Niamh Fortune is a teacher educator in the Froebel Department, specialising in the area of literacy. Niamh teaches language and literacy to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in education. Niamh qualified as a primary school teacher and has a broad range of teaching experiences. She previously worked as a cuiditheoir in English with the Primary Curriculum Support Programme. Niamh is Past President and member of the Executive Committee of The Reading Association of Ireland 2012-2013. She has been involved in designing professional development as part of the RAI’s seminar programme and designing the reading module for the National Induction Programme (2010) She recently organised the 37th Annual conference for RAI and opened the RAI conference (2013) She was invited to open the ELSTA conference in September 2012 as President of RAI. Niamh has presented seminars on Reading for Understanding with the RAI (March 2013) and on Writing (March 12). She has also presented to the Church of Ireland Teachers conference on ‘Writing across the curriculum’ (March 12) Niamh has presented a workshop to The Professional Development Service for Teachers on Reading (May 12) She presented a paper on Literacy and Play with RAI (2010) and Aistear Tutors ( 2010) Niamh has organised and delivered continuous professional development for local schools (Reading for Understanding 2012), parents (Supporting Literacy at home 2013) & staff (Writing across the Curriculum)2010/2012/2013
