Stephen Nash
Professor
Engineering and Informatics
NUI Galway

Biography
Stephen graduated from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 1997 with a BAI in Civil Engineering and a BA in Maths. He spent two further years in TCD studying for a MSc by research which was funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency and focused on the development of a combined hydrodynamic and water quality model of Wexford Harbour. Upon graduating with an MSc in Civil Engineering in 1999, he moved to Galway to work as a Project Engineer with Aquafact International Services Ltd. In 2002, he left Aquafact to begin a PhD at National University of Ireland, Galway, the focus of which was the development of a dynamically nested tidal flow model. Later the same year, he took up a full-time lecturing post in the Department of Civil Engineering at NUI Galway and continued his PhD part-time, graduating in 2010.
Research Interest
Stephen's research area is the numerical and physical modelling of surface waters, including physical, chemical and biological processes, with particular interest in multi-scale modelling and tidal energy.
