Biography
Dr Tomás Finn lectures in modern Irish history at NUI, Galway. Dr Finn’s monograph ‘Tuairim, intellectual debate and policy formulation: Rethinking Ireland, 1954-75’ was published by Manchester University Press in 2012. This book examines intellectual debates in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s. It considers the intellectual society, known as Tuairim (meaning opinion in Irish), and its influence on intellectual debate and policy formulation in relation to Northern Ireland, the economy, politics, education, childcare and censorship. Dr Finn holds a Ph.D. from NUI, Galway and a BA and an MA from University College Dublin.
Research Interest
Dr Finn's research interests include the role of intellectuals, Church-state relations, public policy, the Irish Diaspora and Northern Ireland.
