Biography
David Landy is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, currently teaching on the Masters and Undergraduate programmes in sociology. A graduate of Trinity College, he has lived in Finland and Germany, working in the NGO and development sector. His main research interests are in transnational social movements, particularly with regard to Israel/Palestine, and his doctoral dissertation, funded by IRCHSS, was on diaspora Jewish opposition to Israel. He is the author of "Jewish Identity and Palestinian Rights: Diaspora Jewish Opposition to Israel', and has helped organise two conferences in Trinity College on international conflict zones: 'Palestine as 'state of exception': A global paradigm.' In 2006 and The Local and the Global: The Geo-Politics of Peace and Conflict in Colombia, Kurdistan, Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland' in 2012.
Research Interest
His research interests concern the politics of ethnicity and identity; transnational social movements (in particular the tension between the object of activism and activists themselves); human rights discourse; diaspora and migration; Zionism and anti-Zionism; and Israel/Palestine.
