Biography
Roberto Bertoni, born in La Spezia in 1952, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Italian, Trinity College Dublin. He teaches language and culture to undergraduate students of Italian, and more general topics to Comparative Literature and European Studies postgraduates. He has published on several Italian topics, and among these are publications on Bonaviri, Calvino, and poetry from Liguria. His writings on intercultural East Asian/Italian themes include essays on Buddhism and poetry in Italy, Italian perceptions of Korea, Korean TV drama, and interrelated aspects of Japanese, Korean and European science fiction. These essays, and Quaderni di cultura, a series of books he edits (published by TCD and Trauben Turin) are available here and his last book of short stories is Altrove (Lecce, Manni, 2014). His personal site can be found here. He is also the editor of the online journal Carte allineate. Italian literature since 1945 is his most specific field of research, which has resulted in numerous publications. Parallel to this is his interest in the social aspects of literature, science fiction, intellectual commitment in Europe, Gramsci, the impact of antiquity on modern literature and film, and some aspects of the cultural interactions between East Asia and Italy. He has organized international study groups and has been the editor of a series of collective publications on literary and social aspects of the modern, mostly but not limited to, the Italian context. Administrative duties presently include the co-ordination of Italian European Studies; an Erasmus exchange between European Studies (TCS) and the Italian universities of Pavia and Siena; European Studies and Two Subject Moderatorship Senior Sophisters studying Italian. Bertoni is the representative of the Italian Department in the SLLCS Undergraduate Committee and will be Head of the Italian Department from 1st July 2016.

Twentieth-century literature, modern and contemporary narrative, Giuseppe Bonaviri, Italo Calvino , Quaderni di Cultura Italiana, poetry from Liguria, annotated bibliography of critical work published each year on Italian 20th century narrative, translations from and introductory notes to a number of Irish poets. Western reception and interpretation of Buddhism. Italian perspectives on Korea and other East Asian countries.
