Biography

In 2006 Fáinche Ryan was awarded a doctorate in Systematic Theology at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). In the same year she was appointed Director of Studies at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, Cambridge, a college of the Cambridge Theological Federation. During this time she was also an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge. Immediately prior to her appointment at Trinity College Dublin Fáinche was a lecturer in theology at the Mater Dei Institute, Dublin.

Research Interest

The theology of St Thomas Aquinas; its ongoing relevance. Philosophical and theological approaches to questions of human flourishing, and of evil. Questions of ecclesiology, of Church structure, of Ministry, both historical and contemporary. Her current publication project lies in a topic central to ecclesiological debate today – Church structure and Eucharist. To this end she is a member of the organising committee of the forthcoming conference in Trinity College Dublin, ‘The Role of Church in a Pluralist Society: Good riddance or good influence?’ (June 22-14th, 2016)
