Biography

Prof Mathew McCauley is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology, a Consultant Military Clinical Psychologist, and a Medical Corps Officer in the Army Reserve. Having joined TCD in 2012, he currently serves as a Principal Researcher in Trinity's Centre for Psychological Health and is Founder of TCD's Military Health Research Group. Following his doctoral training in the NHS and at the UK's Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, he spent six years with the US Department of Defense, assigned to the United States Air Force's 48th Fighter Wing and 501st Combat Support Wing. He has also served with the UK Ministry of Defence for five years, based within Joint Medical Command. As a practicing clinician, Mathew holds a number of senior positions within military healthcare and operates an international private psychological health consultancy. He is formerly a Committee Member of the UK's Defence Mental Health Conference, based within Defence Medical Services, Joint Forces Command; and currently serves as an advisor on military psychology with the Irish Defence Forces. Mathew teaches doctoral students on TCD's clinical psychology programme, along with supervising post-graduate research and publishing in the areas of military psychology, clinical health psychology, psychotherapy, and qualitative research.
