Biography

Dr. Kennelly is a consultant physician in geriatric and internal medicine in Tallaght hospital, and a clinical senior lecturer in the department of medical gerontology. Following graduation from TCD in 2001, Dr. Kennelly completed the majority of his training in geriatric medicine in St. James and Tallaght hospitals, Dublin. He was awarded a PhD from TCD in 2010. He is the Scientific and Medical Advisor on the EU FP-7 funded NILVAD project, an investigator-led international randomised controlled trial investigating the potential efficacy of the antihypertensive nilvadipine when used to treat Alzheimer's disease. He is co-principle investigator on the first Irish National Audit of Dementia (INAD) care in acute hospitals. He is a member of the clinical and research advisory panel for the Alzheimer's society of Ireland. He is secretary of the Irish Society of Physicians in Geriatric Medicine. He is a member of the Irish Society of Acute and Internal Medicine and the Irish Delirium Society, the Irish Gerontological Society and the European Stroke Organisation. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland. He is a regional specialty advisor for the specialty of internal and acute medicine in the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland. His research interests include: Alzheimer's disease Vascular and Mixed dementia Delirium Acute geriatric medicine- development of integrated acute geriatric care pathways Stroke medicine Falls and syncope Residential and rehabilitation care medicine
