Biography
Stephanie Holt graduated as a qualified social worker from the University of Ulster (Magee College, Derry) in 1991, remaining in the North of Ireland for a number of years working with children in care and in the aftercare system before returning to work in child protection and welfare in Dublin. After five years co-ordinating a family support service, Stephanie joined the School of Social Work & Social Policy in 2000 as a lecturer. Her primary research interests include children's experiences of domestic violence, child homicide and femicide. Her main teaching responsibilities include child welfare & research methods. In 2006 Stephanie was awarded a three year Health Research Board Research Fellowship to enable her to conduct research leading to the award of PhD. Her PhD was awarded in 2010. Stephanie returned to her lecturship in January 2010 and to Director of the Masters in Social Work Programme in July 2010.She was appointed as Director of Teaching and Learning, Postgraduate,and to the School Executive of the School of Social Work and Social Policy in July 2011.
Research Interest
My primary research interest in are located in the field of child welfare with a particular focus on aspects of domestic violence, including;the impact on exposure to domestic abuse on children; the impact of domestic abuse on fathering and mothering; post separation contact; & intimate partner homicide. I have also conducted research and evaluation on family support and social work practice.
