Biography
Dr Bourke is a consultant paediatrician at Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and honorary lecturer in child health at Queen’s University Belfast. He graduated from UCD in 2000 and trained as an acute and general paediatrician in Ireland, Australia and the UK. In NHS practice he manages a broad range of acute and chronic problems at outpatient clinics and the paediatric emergency department. His QUB Doctoral research project on improving diagnosis of meningitis and blood infection was recently published in The Lancet Infectious Disease. He is an expert advisor to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and helped develop the national guideline for Bronchiolitis. Dr Bourke is happy to offer a paediatric opinion on a broad range of acute and chronic problems in children from 0 to 16 years including: • Infant feeding problems such as gastro-oesophageal reflux, suspected cow’s milk allergy and colic • Gastrointestinal problems in all children including poor eating, poor weight gain, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, suspected coeliac disease • Headaches, suspected fits, faints and funny turns • Urinary tract problems including infection, bed wetting and day time wetting • Chest problems including cough, wheeze, asthma, infections • Other problems including tiredness, muscle aches and non-specific symptoms
