Biography
Nuala is a graduate in medicine from NUIG and has been a Consultant Clinical Microbiologist at UHL since Sept. 2005. She trained in clinical microbiology as a PHLS specialist registrar in the West Midlands rotation and undertook a medical doctorate at the University of Warwick studying Clostridium difficile in a biofilm mode of growth. She is an adjunct senior lecturer at the Graduate Entry Medical School, University of Limerick and a principal investigator at the centre for interventions in infection, inflammation and immunity (4i) at UL
Research Interest
Her interests include prosthetic joint infections and information technology in infection control / antimicrobial stewardship. Nuala and Fergal McDonnell from Doctot developed a smart phone application “Doctot Antibiotic” which won national recognition as the antimicrobial project award of the year in 2013 for acute hospital pharmacies.
