Biography
Dr. Alistair Simpson is a Research Engineer working on a collaborative academic-industry project between Ulster University and AVX Ltd, Coleraine. Alistair’s key responsibilities involve the development of materials for a new generation of electronic components. Alistair’s primary research interests are in the field of micro and nano-particle dispersion and ensuring the timely progression of R&D development throughout the production process and sharing knowledge obtained with project partners. Alistair is also completing a part-time PhD in the area of ceramic nanoparticle dispersion for the manufacture of multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). Alistair studied Chemical Engineering at Teesside University, which included a year’s placement in industry at the Associated Octel bromine production facility in Anglesey, graduating with BEng honours degree in 1991. He then took a position with the Engineering Consultancy, Cremer & Warner Ltd in London, specializing in process plant risk and safety assessments. In 1994 he took up a position as Chemical Engineer in the pharmaceutical company, Nicobrand Ltd in Coleraine. He then moved to the AVX Ltd multilayer ceramic capacitor manufacturing facility, Coleraine in 2000. At AVX he was responsible for the ceramic materials production process and developed his interest in materials dispersion which led to his current position. Alistair is a Senior Associate Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineering.
