Biography

Claire McCann, Lecturer in Finance in Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at Ulster University,  Claire McCann is a Lecturer of finance in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics. Claire’s teaching and research interests are in financial mathematics, statistics, corporate finance, portfolio management and education. Claire studied at Queen’s University Belfast graduating with a BSc Hons Statistics, Mathematics & Operational Research (First) and subsequently a MSc Finance (with Distinction). She joined Ulster in 2000 as a Lecturer in finance and has been teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level since.  In 2009, Claire became the Undergraduate Course Director in finance.

Research Interest

She has an interest in education research and has occupied various teaching and learning roles within the Ulster University Business School including amongst other responsibilities that of Department Learning and Teaching and Co-ordinator and Accounting, Finance and Economics Subject Co-ordinator. She received the University’s Distinguished Teaching Fellowship (Team Award) in 2014 for recognition of work on the promotion of an innovative programme to support student employability. She continues to develop student centred interventions, within the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics, designed to enhance the induction and transition experiences of Accounting, Finance and Economics students. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the University’s Centre for Higher Education Research Practice.
