Biography
Dr. Howard is Year Tutor for final year students on the 3 year full-time course and Chair of the Practice Assessment Board. Prior to joining the Ulster Social Work Team in 2008, he practised as a social worker in a range of family and child care settings and latterly worked as a Social Work Trainer with the Western Health and Social Care Trust. He co-ordinated the Trust’s training response in the aftermath of the Omagh bombing, 1998-2000. Howard also has experience of residential work with older people and disabled adults.His main teaching commitments relate to SWK115 Building and Maintaining Professional Identity, SWK109 Introduction to Social Work Practice, SWK335 Working in Organisations. The first two modules are taught in Year 1, semester 1 and as such Howard has a key role with students in laying foundation knowledge for professional development and making sure students not only feel welcome at Ulster, but, confident enough to raise concerns or queries they may have.
Research Interest
Howard has teaching and research interest in resilience and informal caring. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holder of the Advanced Award in Social Work.
