Biography
Hugh studied English and Sociology at Queens University and went on to do a Masters in Social Work at Queens and a postgraduate Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring at Dublin Institute of Technology. He led various projects in the voluntary sector from 1980 to 1994 before joining Ulster University as a member of the Community Youth Work team. Hugh has acted as a Course Director for the Youth Work programme until 2003. Since then he has been involved in leading the establishment of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Restorative Practices.
Research Interest
Hugh’s research focus includes Justice, security and the role of restorative justice in intercultural settings (2012-16); The treatment of vulnerable young people a comparative study –N.I./Norway and Estonia-(commencing 2017); Mentoring community workers ,with Sam McCready (2000-present)
