Biography

Dr Kristian Lasslett is Director of the Institute for Research in Social Sciences, he is also Senior Lecturer in criminology. Kristian finished his PhD in 2009, joining the School of Criminology, Politics and Social Policy the same year. His research applies a range of investigative methods to interrogate the systems, actors and transactions which prosecute grand corruption, large-scale land theft, and human rights abuses in the extractives sector. He has pioneered a range of data analysis tools, including investigative social network analysis and transaction mapping. This research has been funded by the British Academy, ESRC, Open Society Foundation, and Christensen Fund. Kristian’s research findings have been presented in high calibre journals such as the British Journal of Criminology and Theoretical Criminology, in addition to two monographs published by Pluto Press and Routledge. He is joint Editor-in-Chief of State Crime Journal, and sits on the Executive Board of theInternational State Crime Initiative. Kristian is also involved in creating new digital technologies for enhancing student centred learning in the area of state crime and human rights. He is the editor of The State Crime Testimony Project, which was a finalist in the 2014 Times Higher Education Awards. Additionally, he has been involved in a range of feature length documentary films that take state crime research to a global audience.
