Niamh Kennedy

Biography

Niamh Kennedy is a cognitive neuroscientist with specific interest in the neurophysiology of recovery of motor control post stroke and brain injury using non-invasive methods of stimulation. Niamh’s PhD concentrated on the exploitation of neuroplasticity through rehabilitation or non-invasive methods of stimulation techniques, to enhance the recovery of function in the upper limbs. Her research has actively involved looking at the recovery of individuals with stroke and brain injury, the interaction between motor, sensory and cognitive aspects of behaviour. Niamh has investigated this looking at what experimental psychology can add to our understanding of recovery and the healthy brain. She graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a degree in Psychology (2005), following two summer research internships at Harvard University and Boston University, completed a PhD in Psychology (2011) from Queen's University Belfast. Niamh worked as a Lecturer in Rehabilitation Neuroscience in University of East Anglia (2010-2017) before joining Ulster University in 2017.
