Biography

Claire O'Neill (MSc. PhD) is a college lecturer in Ethical Management and Marketing at University College Cork (UCC). Her teaching and research interests are focused on the ethical implications of business decisions on society. Claire has a particular interest in sustainable consumption and the ways in which our sustainable behaviour patterns are developed. Claire has collaborated with Green-Schools Ireland (a Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE) programme, known internationally as Eco-Schools) which aims to develop and maintain sustainable behaviours among primary and secondary schoolchildren. The purpose of this programme is to empower young people to be the change our sustainable world needs by engaging them in action-oriented learning and citizenship. In line with this, Claire also volunteers and mentors students as part of UCC Green Campus, a third-level initiative similar to Green-Schools. Claire is currently Co-Director of the Early Start Programme in Management and Marketing in the European Union and a member of the Business School Group on Academic Standards. Claire holds a BSc. from University College Cork (2007), an MSc. from Dublin Institute of Technology (2009) and a PhD from University College Cork (2015).

Research Interest

Claire’s research interest is in marketing ethics with a particular focus on sustainable consumption. Current research focuses on the ethics of consumption, behaviour change, social marketing and researching children’s perspectives on sustainability. Other interests include advertising ethics, CSR and the impact of marketing on society.
