Biography
Dr Edel Walsh was awarded a PhD from University College Cork in 2012. She previously graduated with a BA Joint Honours Degree in Economics and Sociology and a MA in Economics from University College Cork. Her principal research interests are in the area of subjective well-being. Her PhD focused on establishing the determinants of well-being in Ireland and in particular establishing a simultaneous relationship between well-being and employment status using advanced econometric techniques. Edel is Director of the MSc Economics of Business Practice, which is a distinctive, practice-oriented postgraduate programme. Participants can develop an applied knowledge and comprehensive understanding of how business operates through a 6 month work placement. Edel’s teaching is mainly in the area of business economics and includes delivering modules on topics such as business strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship. Edel has lectured in econometrics and research methods modules on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She also teaches survey data analysis on an executive education programme.
