Biography

Present Position: Lecturer, Department of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Limerick. Start Date of Position: August 2002- present (permanent position).Undertaking a PhD part-time year around Quality of Life and Living with Parkinson's under the spervision of Professor Fiona Murphy, Dr Pauline Meskell and Dr Owen Doody. Current position Teaching: Key areas of my role include teaching, learning and assessing learning across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes (BSc and MSc Nursing programmes). Teaching commitments also extend to supervising undergraduate nursing students completing their final year research proposals. My role also includes involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development. Clinical commitment: I am the faculty support for a number of medical and surgical sites within University Hospital Limerick and my responsibilities include supporting clinical sites and student nurses while they are on clinical placement. I have responsibility for conducting audits of the clinical learning environment in partnership with the clinical placement co-ordinators, Nursing Practice Development Co-ordinator and Clinical Nurse Managers. Research: My research to date has been undertaken in a number of key nursing areas including communication, cultural care, infection control, wound care, clinical competencies. I have supervised MSc students both taught and by research to successful completion. I am a member of the chronic health and palliative care research cluster within our department.
