Biography
Jan studied architecture in Weimar, London, Zurich and Chicago and graduated from the Bauhaus University Weimar in 1998. After practicing architecture for three years, free-lance and with Gildehaus.Reich architects, he returned to the Bauhaus University and taught as assistant lecturer under Prof Karl-Heinz Schmitz before taking a position as visiting lecturer at Virginia TechÂ’s Washington Alexandria Architecture Center in 2006. Jan moved to Ireland and became a full-time junior lecturer at SAUL in 2007, teaching second and third year design studio respectively and serving as course director from 2009 to 2011. Pursuing his interest in design education, Jan completed a Specialist Diploma course in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship in UL. His research interests evolve around community-centred planning and self-build projects as well as the spatial expression of Modernity, focusing on the spatial concept characteristic to the works of Mies van der Rohe.
