Biography
Orla Lenihan obtained a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Accounting (both first class honours) from National University of Ireland, Galway. She then completed a 3 year training contract with PricewaterhouseCoopers, a Big 4 professional accounting firm, where she obtained her Chartered Accountancy qualification. Following this, she obtained post-qualification experience in a number of organisations including Mazars, Galway Business School, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, and Limerick College of Business Studies. Orla joined the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick in 2010, where she designed and served as Course Director for the Professional Diploma in Accounting programme from 2013 until 2016. She is currently the Course Director of the BA in Law and Accounting and she also lectures on a number of postgraduate and undergraduate accounting and finance modules. In June 2013, Orla was selected as the joint winner of the 2013 UL Award for Excellence in Large Group Teaching, in recognition of her commitment to teaching excellence. She is currently undertaking a part-time PhD with UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in the area of performance-based CEO compensation. Based on this doctoral research, she was nominated to represent the Irish Accounting and Finance Association (IAFA) at the 2014 American Accounting Association Doctoral Consortium, held at Deloitte University, Texas. She was selected as the winner of the IAFA Doctoral Research Funding Competition in 2013 and she was presented with the IAFA Scholar Award in 2016. Her research interests include executive compensation; performance criteria in incentive plans; corporate governance; impression management; and empirical archival accounting research.
