Biography

Dr. Urszula Salaj-Kosla is a lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Science in University of Limerick. She has obtained her MSc. degree in Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland with master thesis entitled Analysis of porphyrin fluorescence phenomenon in solvent of various polarity. Simultaneously, she has obtained her BSc. degree in pedagogy. After that she started a PhD project under Prof. Edmond Magner supervision in University of Limerick and finished with PhD title from the area of Bioelectrochemistry and Material Science (thesis title: Nanoporous gold electrodes as matrices for redox enzymes immobilization for application in biosensors and biofuel cells, part of EU-funded 3D-NanoBioDevices consortium). During her PhD, Urszula was a guest researcher in Elektroanalytik & Sensorik Research Group of Prof. Wolfgang Schuhmann in Ruhr-Universitat in Bochum, Germany. After her PhD, Urszula was working as a post-doctoral researcher with Dr. Tofail Syed in Materials and Surface Science Institute (MSSI). She was involved in fabrication of highly orientated and well-separated ZnO nanotubes on ITO-coated glass for piezoelectric devices application and in SANOWORK (EU funded) project. During her second post-doctoral project in Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis (CAPPA) in Cork Institute of Technology and Tyndall National Institute, Urszula was working on the development, fabrication and characterization of optical sensors within AquaMMS (EU-funded).

Research Interest

Dr. Urszula Salaj-Kosla's research focuses on development, fabrication and characterization of wide range of sensors (electrichemical and enzymatic, optical) for real application.
