Biography
Dr. Claire O’Gorman has a research background in cancer care and a clinical background in critical care nursing. Her PhD work involved an investigation of symptoms, Quality of Life (QoL) and factors associated with tumour response in rectal cancer patients receiving radiotherapy for this illness. Whilst undertaking her PhD, Claire worked clinically in Intensive Care and also taught across undergraduate nursing and healthcare modules. Upon completion of her doctoral thesis, she took up a full time position as a Lecturer at Waterford Institute of Technology. Clinically, Claire specialised in critical care at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, where she was awarded a Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing (2006). She continued her studies in this field by undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Cardiac and Intensive Care Nursing (2009) at University College Cork., where she also completed her undergraduate training and a BSc in General Nursing, for which she was subsequently awarded the Dr. H.H. Stewart Scholarship (2005).
