Sinead Foran

Biography

Recently awarded her PhD from Trinity College, Dublin, Sinéad is the Programme Leader for the BSc in Intellectual Disability Nursing. Graduating as a Registered Nurse in Intellectual Disabilities (RNID) from COPE Foundation, Cork, Sinéad has over 20 years’ experience working with people with ID and their families. Sinéad has worked with children and adults with ID in a variety of healthcare settings including residential care and community based respite care. In 2012 Sinéad was awarded the Aging SIRG Fellowship Award at the IASSIDD World Congress in Nova Scotia, for her work on Fear of Falling in older adults with intellectual disabilities.’ Under the supervision of Prof Mary McCarron and Prof Philip McCallion, Sinead was awarded her PhD titled ‘The prevalence and predictors of falls and fear of falling among participants in the Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (IDS TILDA) - Wave 1’. Sinéad was a member of the Scientific Committee for the Wave 1 Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (IDS – TILDA) and remains a member of the research team for WAVE 3 of the IDS TILDA programme of research.
