Biography
Dr Brian Thornes is a former orthopaedic surgeon with c.17 years of clinical experience. He is the Founder and Chief Executive of X-BOLT Orthopaedics. Previously in 2000, Dr. Thornes invented and developed the Tightrope ankle syndesmosis device, now licenced to Arthrex. The Tightrope has been successfully implanted in over 200,000 patients worldwide and has been a ‘game changer’ in the way that ankle synesmosis injuries and high ankle sprains are now treated. Recent randomised controlled clinical trials have shown the Tightrope to be the new gold standard in syndesmosis fixation, with better outcomes and less reoperations versus conventional syndesmosis screw treatment. Similarly, the X-BOLT® is predicted to revolutionise hip fracture fixation with better outcomes and less reoperations.
