Biography
Contreras, an instructor of surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, received his medical degree from the Universidad Anahuac Medical School in Mexico City. In addition to completing an internship in microsurgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (formerly New England Deaconess Hospital), he has more than 25 years of experience in evaluating artificial blood vessels in conjunction with Dr. Frank LoGerfo, who serves on our scientific advisory board. Contreras also serves as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for the institution. He has expertise in developing new preclinical models to study medical devices and in examining these devices after implantation. Contreras performed all of the initial NuSpun vascular graft implantation studies and will oversee future preclincial trials.
