Biography
"Dr. Joshua Lederberg who was an active member of the Semorex Scientific Advisory, was Professor emeritus at Rockefeller University since 1990, and continued to conduct laboratory research on bacterial and human genetics, and to advise government and industry on global health policy, biological warfare, and the threat of bioterrorism, until shortly before his death in 2008. Prior to his emeritus status, he was President of Rockefeller University for twelve years. Dr. Lederberg who received his Ph.D. fromYale University, was professor of genetics and founder of the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Wisconsin and founder and chairman of the Department of Genetics, Stanford University School of Medicine. In 1958 Dr. Lederberg received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his studies on the genetic structure and functioning in microorganisms. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and participated in various panels of the President's Science Advisory Board, i.e., President Kennedy's Panel on Mental Retardation, chairman of President Carter's Cancer Panel and more."
