Biography

Dr. Joseph Mizrahi is a Professor Emeritus of Biomedical Engineering. He was the incumbent of the Pearl Milch Chair of Biomedical Engineering Sciences in the years 2002-2013. He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Dr. Joseph Mizrahi received his B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering in 1967; M.Sc. in Mechanics in 1970; and D.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering in 1975, all from the Technion, IIT.  He has held positions in the University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg as Senior Lecturer (1976-1979) and in the Loewenstein Rehabilitation Center in Ra'anana, Israel as Director of the Biomechanics Laboratory (1979-1982).  He has been with the Technion- IIT since 1982.  During this period, he has also had visiting appointments in the Harvard Medical School, Boston (1989-1990), the University of Cape Town (1991), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (1998-1999) and Drexel University, Philadelphia (2010). He served as Dean of the Technion BME Faculty for 5 years (2004-2009).   Dr. Joseph Mizrahi is a Professor Emeritus of Biomedical Engineering. Research Interest

My research focuses on the following:  1) Restoration and/or augmentation of function in handicapped muscles by means of functional electrical stimulation (FES); 2) Musculoskeletal interactions in able-bodied and disabled human individuals; (3) Neuromuscular redundancies and mechanical indeterminacies in the human body and their implications in the field of Rehabilitation.
