Ehud Heyman

Professor
Electrical Engineering
Tel Aviv University
Israel

Biography

Prof. Ehud Heyman received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude Valedictorian, from Tel-Aviv University, in 1977, the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, with distinction, from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, in 1979, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrophysics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York, in 1982. While at the Polytechnic Institute, he was a Research Assistant and later on a Post Doctoral Fellow. During his PhD he also was a Fulbright Fellow, a Rothschild Fellow, and a Hebrew Technical Institute Fellow. In 1983 he joined the Department of Physical Electronics at the Faculty of Engineering at Tel-Aviv University, where he is now a Professor and the incumbent of the Ludwig Jokel Chair in Electronics. He headed various Faculty committees and was the Chairman of the Department of Physical Electronics from 1999 to 2003. In 2003, he has led a restructuring of the Faculty of Engineering, and appointed as the Founding Head of the School of Electrical Engineering. From 2006 to 2014, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. As a dean, he established an International Program for a BSc in Electrical Engineering, and is serving now as the Program Head. In 1991/2 he spent a Sabbatical leave of absence with Northeastern University, Boston, and with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. He also spent several summers as a Visiting Professor at the Polytechnic Institute, at Northeastern University, at Chuo University, Tokyo, and at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. He is the author of more than 120 articles in scientific journals, as well as many conference publications. Prof. Heyman is a Fellow of the IEEE[citation: for contributions to theory of time domain electromagnetics and of pulsed beam radiation, propagation, and scattering]. He is the President of the Israeli National Committee for Radio Science. He served on the Editorial Board of the IEEE Press Series on Electromagnetic Waves and was an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. He is the 2011 Laureate of the Balthasar van der Pol Gold Medal of URSI [citation: for developing mathematical tools to analyze the generation, propagation and scattering of beam-shaped electromagnetic fields, and their engineering applications].

Research Interest

Electromagnetics theory; analytic techniques for wave-propagation scattering and diffraction, High-frequency asymptotics; time-domain methods, Ultra-wideband/short-pulse electromagnetics, Target identification and inverse scattering, Synthetic aperture techniques.
