Yitzhak Benbaji

Biography

Yitzhak Benbaji is a professor of philosophy at Tel-Aviv University Law Faculty. He teaches courses on moral and political philosophy, on the philosophy of law and jurisprudence and on the morality and the laws of war. His fields of interest are just war theory, political theory, theories of distributive justice, philosophy of language and more recently, the philosophy of law and of international law. Yitzhak Benbaji earned his PhD (summa cum laude) at the Hebrew University (2001), and he served as a post -doc research at the Institute for advanced study, Princeton (2000-2). Before moving to Tel Aviv University, he was a professor at the philosophy department and the law faculty in Bar-Ilan University (2002-2012). He returned to the Institute for advanced study, Princeton as a senior member at (2006-7), he was a senior fellow at the Schell Center for International Human Rights at Yale Law School, and an organizer of a research group on just war theory and theories of global justice at the institute for advanced study, Jerusalem (2010-11). In 2013 Professor Benbaji was appointed as the Senator Grafstein Visiting Chair in the Department of Philosophy, University of Toronto.
