Biography

I joined Farmitalia Carlo Erba in 1981 as a researcher in the General Pharmacology laboratory, working on gastrointestinal projects. I spent 15 months (1987-88) at Adria Labs. USA (Columbus, Ohio) conducting research on gastroenterology and started working on cardiovascular safety pharmacology. In Columbus, I conducted a stage at Ohio State University on electrolyte transport across rat colonic mucosa. Upon my return to Italy, I joined the newly formed group of Safety Pharmacology and set up the cardiovascular safety pharmacology laboratory. Between 1994 and 1996, I also acted as Study Director for General Toxicology studies. In 1996 I became manager of the Safety Pharmacology laboratory. From 1999 to 2000 I was appointed Global Coordinator of Safety Pharmacology within Pharmacia with responsibility, among others, for developing a Company policy for QT liabilities of new compounds, optimizing resources across different sites and coordinating activities between different locations. I became Senior Manager of the Safety Pharmacology Group in 1999. In 2013 I became Scientific Director of Accelera s.r.l.; in this role I am responsible of the scientific staff of Toxicology, Pathology, Drug Disposition, Pharmacokinetics and Regulatory&Documentation Management. I am also responsible for direct contacts with Sponsors for the definition of experimental designs according to their needs and the formulation of commercial proposals. I have broad experience in safety pharmacology, and have been closely involved as preclinical representative in several development projects on a wide range of compounds. I'm member of the Società Italiana di Farmacologia (SIF) and of the Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS).  My publication record includes 18 publications (including two book chapters on safety Pharmacology) and more than 25 oral/poster communications at scientific meetings.
