Biography
Dr. Robert van Gorcom has been General Director of RIKILT -- the Institute of Food Safety, at Wageningen UR (University & Research centre) – since 2010 and was from 2002 to 2009 its Business Unit Manager Safety & Health. Previously, Dr van Gorcom was employed in different positions at TNO (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) – from 1980 to 1993 in the Medical Biological Laboratory and from 1994 to 2000 in Nutrition and Food Research. In the last seven years at TNO, he was head of Department of Molecular Genetics and Gene Technology and from 1996 to 1999 also head of Department of Plant Biotechnology. Dr van Gorcom was manager of Wageningen UR glasshouse horticulture research from 2000 to 2002. He has a MSc degree in Molecular Sciences from Wageningen University (1981) and a PhD degree from the University of Amsterdam (1997).
