Biography
Roberto Biffi European Institute of Oncology, Milan, Italy Roberto Biffi is Director of the Division of Abdomino Pelvic Surgery at the IEO. He graduated in Medicine at the University of Milan and thereafter obtained two postgraduate specialist degrees in Emergency Surgery and Urology. He spent a sabbatical at the University of Pittsburgh where he developed a program for experimental and clinical small bowel transplantation and in 1999 he set up a program of major liver surgery at the University of Paris. He is a lecturer at the Postgraduate School of Surgery in the University of Milan. His main areas of interest are the multidisciplinary treatment of gastrointestinal and pelvic tumours (including soft tissue sarcomas), the use of robotics in abdominal oncology surgery, intensive care, antibiotic treatment and nutrition of acutely ill surgical oncology patients and the implant and use of central venous accesses in oncology. He is a member of numerous international scientific societies and has authored over 100 research papers and 55 books or book-chapters.
