Biography

"Born in 1961, Gaetano Chemello received his ""Laurea"" in Electronic Engineering from the University of Padova in 1986. In 1988 he became research scientist at the Institute of Systems Science and Biomedical Engineering of the Italian National Research Council (Ladseb-CNR) of Padova. He was at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (Istituto di Ingegneria Biomedica, ISIB-CNR) from 2001 to 2014 and he is now at the Institute of Neuroscience (Istituto di Neuroscienze, IN-CNR). In 1990 he was visiting scholar at the Department of Computer Science, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. From 1999 to 2001 he was professor of ""Fondamenti di Informatica"" at the University of Padova. From 2001 to 2014 he was the leader of the research group on ""Reasoning under uncertainty in autonomous systems"" at ISIB-CNR. From 2002 to 2009 he was member of the Advisory Committee (Comitato d'Istituto) of ISIB-CNR. His initial research activity was on programming environments for robotics. Then he worked on reasoning under uncertainty in autonomous systems, with particular interest in the interpretation of sensor information into logical frameworks based on possibility theory and on evidence theory. His main contribution has been in the development of localization methods for a mobile robot navigating in an approximately and partially known office environment using a topological map. His current research interest is on emg-driven neuromusculoskeletal models of the human body applied to wearable robotics (exoskeletons) for rehabilitation purposes. He is also involved in the development of devices for the monitoring of the diabetic foot."

Research Interest

reasoning under uncertainty and exoskeletons for rehabilitation.
