Fasano Mauro
Associate Professors
SCIENCES AND HIGH TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Insubria University
Italy
Biography
Mauro Fasano graduated in Chemistry in 1989 at the University of Turin working on NMR characterization of cell pigments. He later obtained the Doctorate degree (Chemical Sciences, 1992) with a thesis on non-covalent interactions between small paramagnetic molecules and proteins. From 1992 to 2000 he was appointed as Assistant Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Turin. In the period 1992-2000 Prof. Fasano worked on the characterization of metal ion centers in biomolecules by NMR spectroscopy. In particular, he studied the solid-state structure of different melanin pigments including human mesencephalic melanin, and the NMR relaxometric properties of heme proteins. These two interests have been further developed in the coming years. Starting from 1st November 2000 he was appointed as Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science of the University of Insubria at Varese, being affiliated with the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences.
