Biography
Stefano Serra Capizzano born in 1967 received the Laurea in Computer Science in 1990 at Pisa U. and the PhD in Applied Mathematics in 1996 and Optimization at Milan U. both with summa cum laude. In 1996 he started as Researcher in Numerical Analysis (NA) at the Department of Energy of Florence U .; from the year 2000 he is Associate Professor at NA at the CFM Department of Insubria U. in Como. Since October 1st 2006 he is Full Professor in NA (Abilitation November 2004) and serves as Head of the Department of Physics and Mathematics.
Research Interest
The use of interdisciplinary research tools such as mathematical analysis (measurement theory, asymptotic analysis tools, etc.) and the theory of approximation (relative approximation, Korovkin theory, positive linear operatives, etc.) has allowed to obtain results regarding the problem of resolution of linear systems deriving from discrete equations to partial derivatives and Toeplitz linear systems and to the study of asymptotic conditioning. In particular, the results and techniques developed for the Toeplitz case were then used for elliptical contour problems. Conversely, linear algebraic instruments have been used in the dynamic bifurcation study, in the search for proximity operators for continuous or integrable Lebesgue functions, and in the computationally attractive models for the reconstruction of signals or images.
