Biography

Since June 2012 he is director of the "Center for Research on Mountain History, Material Culture and Earth Sciences" at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences. Since 2013 coordinates the Presidium of University Quality and is Delegate of the Rector for Education. He was Director of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences for the three-year period 2013-15. Graduated in Letters at the University of Florence, he holds a Ph.D. in History of Science at the University of Bari. From August 1996 to July 1997 he was 'Resident Fellow' at the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology (MIT, Boston). From February 1998 to October 2001 he worked at the Center for Study of the History of Technique of the National Research Council in Genoa, with the qualification of Researcher III level. In November 2001 he took over from the University of Inubergine as an associate professor in the disciplinary field M-STO / 05 - History of Science and Techniques. Since October 2006 he is an ordinary professor in the same disciplinary field. In 2004 he was appointed ordinary member of the Institute of Higher Studies of the Instituto "Gerolamo Cardano" and from 2004 to 2013 he was an actual member of the Academy of Agriculture, Science and Letters of Verona. From 2002 to 2006 he was part of the Committee for the "Mountain Ethnographic Museum" of the National Institute of Mountain (Rome). From 2008 to 2012 he was the University of Insubria at the board of directors of the Fondazione Domenico Morino of Castelletto sopra Ticino (Novara). In 2009 and 2013 he was visiting professor (professeur invité) at the University of Michel de Montaigne, Bordeaux III (France), while in 2016 he was Visiting Research Professor, selected by the IdEx - Initiative of Excellence at the Université de Bordeaux , at Laboratoire SPH (Science, Philosophie, Humanités) of the universities of Bordeaux and Bordeaux Montaigne (France).

Research Interest

- Historical reconstruction of the naturalistic surveys in the pre-Alpine territory of the modern age: travel, cartography, statistical surveys, exploitation of the territory. - Reconnaissance on the presence of collections and archives of historical-scientific and historical-technical value, as a function of their analysis and enhancement not only in the local context. - History of Material Culture and Techniques in the Pre-Alpine, Lake and River Territories
