La Sapienza University
Italy
Biography
He graduated in Chemistry in 1975 from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, presenting an experimental thesis in Physical Organic Chemistry. From 1977 to 1980 he was the recipient of a research fellowship from the Italian National Research Council (C.N.R.) at the Centro di Studio sui Meccanismi di Reazione in Rome. From 1981 to 1998 he was a University Researcher at La Sapienza where he became Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry in 1998. His teaching activity started in 1992 and, at present, he teaches "Chimica Organica III con Laboratorio" (Organic Chemistry 3 with laboratory), to students in the undergraduate degree in Chemistry (three-year degree). His research activity is in the field of Supramolecular Chemistry. He is interested in the syntheses and properties of macrocyclic hosts and also in the quantitative aspect of catalytic effects due to host-guest interactions. In the last few years he became interested in Computational Chemistry as an aid for the interpretation and rationalisation of experimental results. He has published 64 papers in international journals and presented a plenary lecture and 63 communications at various congresses.
