Biography
Nicola M. Pugno was born in 1972 in Pavia, Italy and is currently married and has three babies. He holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics, as well as a Ph.D. in Fracture Mechanics (Mathematical Foundations) and he is currently following a Ph.D in Biology (Learning Solid and Structural Mechanics from Spiders). He is a Professor of Solid and Structural Mechanics at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Founder and Head of the Laboratory of Bio-Inspired Nanomechanics “Giuseppe Maria Pugno” and Leader of the BioNanoMech Group@POLITO. He has published more than 150 international journal papers on Solid-, Structural-, Fracture-, Bio- and Nano-Mechanics in leading international journals (e.g. Nature Materials). He is a Reviewer for more than 60 int. j. and is in the Editorial Board of more than 10 int. j. NMP has received the 2011 Ideas Award (of 1 M€, where “Excellence is the only selection criterion”) from the European Research Council. Nicola M.
