Biography
Tom was most recently the Chief Operating Officer of Euro Ventures Inc., a wholly owned biotech incubator within Versant Ventures. In this role, Tom enabled the formation of four Versant-backed start-up companies: Flexion Therapeutics, Synosia Therapeutics, Sentient Therapeutics and Amira Pharmaceuticals, where he served as the Chief Business Officer for each company. Tom brings to Okairos significant business and finance expertise, having negotiated over 20 license agreements with six major pharmaceutical companies, and supported venture-backed companies in raising over $100 million in equity capital. Tom continues to serve at Versant Ventures as a Venture Partner. Prior to Versant, Tom was a medicinal chemist at XenoPort developing methods to improve the gastrointestinal absorption of drug candidates. He graduated from University of California at Berkeley with a summa cum laude with highest honours for his BA in English, earned the Departmental Citation for his BSc in Chemistry, and earned his PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University, California as a National Science Foundation (NSF) fellow.
