Biography
Born in Iseo (BS)-Italy on November 10th 1971, living in Padova (Italy);Graduated in Forestry in 1995 at the University of Padova, discussing a thesis concerning the combined control of Elm bark beetles and Dutch elm disease;Ph. D. in Agricultural Entomology in 2000 at the University of Bologna, discussing a thesis concerning the bio-ecology and control of the spruce bark beetle Ips typographus in North-eastern Italy; Main research interest is in forest entomology, especially on the following topics:Plant-insect relationships: mechanisms of identification and selection of trees by bark and ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Scolytidae), modifications related to the climate change and its effects in forest ecosystems of temperate regions, genetic variability of bark beetle populations. Model species: pines and Tomicus species, spruce and Ips typographus; Insect-fungus relationships: transmission of plant pathogens by xylophagous insects. Model species: elms and Scolytus spp., oaks and Xyleborus spp.;Biological and integrated control of wood pests: utilisation of chemicals in the biocontrol of bark and ambrosia beetles; effects on non-target insects;Systematic of Mediterranean bark and ambrosia beetles.
