Biography
Coordinating and Addressing Policies of the Regional Government, State-Regions Conference, Relations with the European Union and European Policy Coordination, Great Events, International Affairs, Emigration. Born in Moncalieri on September 1, 1948 in a working family. After completing his degree in economics, he earned a degree in Political Science at the University of Turin. In 1974 he held military service in the Artillery Alpine. It takes the university career and political activity always in close contact with the territory and its social and economic reality. He works at the University as a researcher and is coordinator of the Piedmont Regional Planning Program from 1975 to 1980. In the same period he has been the position of municipal councilor at Moncalieri. Between 1985 and 1987 he lived internationally as an official in the European Parliament. Back in Piedmont, as Cgil's leader matures a profound knowledge of the dynamics of the world of work. In 1991 he became the secretary of the Democratic Left Party (Pds) first at provincial and regional level until 1996, when he was elected to the House of Deputies. In 2001 he became the mayor of Turin for the first time, his role re-elected in 2006. He remains in office until May 2011. From 2009 to 2011 he is also president of the National Association of Italian Nationals (ANCI). From May 2012 to February 2014 he is Chairman of the Company of Sao Paulo, who is responsible for resigning from the presidency of the Piedmont Region.
