Biography
Milena Farina, Ph.D., earned her Laurea (five-year degree) in Architecture at Roma Tre University in 2002. In 2007, she graduated with a Ph.D. in Architecture and Building Design at Polytechnic University of Turin; she defended a dissertation on Urban housing. Design issues from the Netherlands. She developed part of the dissertation as visiting researcher at TU Delft. Her research work mainly focuses on housing space in the modern and contemporary city. She published several works on this topic including: a book titled Spazi e figure dell’abitare. Il progetto della residenza contemporanea in Olanda (Quodlibet, 2012); two edited books respectively titled Studi sulla casa urbana. Sperimentazioni e temi di progetto (Gangemi, 2009) and Housing conference. Ricerche emergenti sul tema dell’abitare (Gangemi, 2009). In 2013, she was a curator with Dr. Luciano Villani for the exhibition Viaggio nelle borgate tra passato e presente. Case popolarissime e periferia pubblica di Roma at Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in Rome. In 2010, she won a public competition to work on a three-year research on the issue of building envelope as a system of representation of contemporary architecture. Since 2005 she has been collaborating with the academic journal Il giornale dell’architettura (Allemandi), contributing articles on architectural competitions and urban projects with a special focus on the city of Rome.
