Biography

Dr. Muscaritoli received his Medical Degree in 1982 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Nephrology subsequently. He worked as a research fellow in Dr. Michael Meguid’s laboratory at Department of Surgery, SUNY Health Science Center, Syracuse, NY. Thereafter, he joined the University “La Sapienza” first as an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, then as an associate professor in 2001. By collaborating with many institutions, his research mainly focuses on metabolic alterations in cancer; cancer cachexia, pathogenic mechanisms of muscle wasting in cancer and other chronic diseases, nutritional and metabolic support in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Dr. Muscaritoli is the Chairman of the Special Interest Group on Cachexia-anorexia in Chronic Diseases of the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN). Served as the Editor-in-Chief of RINPE, the official Journal of the Italian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SINPE) from 2000 to 2005. Served as the Chairman of the Italian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SINPE) from 2005 to 2009. He is member of the Editorial Board of Clinical Nutrition. European Co-Editor of Nutrition; Associate Editor of Nutritional Therapy and Metabolism (NT&M); Associate Editor of Internal and Emergency Medicine (IEM); Associate Editor of The Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism. Author of several papers in peer-reviewed indexed journals, book chapters and clinical guidelines.
