Research Interest
The macro-algae of the genera Cystoseira and Sargassum are considered to be among the most important bio-engineers of the Mediterranean's phytoplankton. These species are susceptible to a series of environmental alterations, in fact they are used as biological indicators in the assessment of the ecological state of the coastal strip in the Water Framework Directive 2000/60 / EC. In the Gulf of Naples most of these species are declining due to a series of changes made by humans to the marine environment. My research activity is focused on the study of morphological and genetic variability and the analysis of the connectivity between the populations of Cystoseira and Sargassum along the coasts of the Gulf of Naples. The composition and structure of the mollusch community associated with these algae is studied to encompass ecological algae-animal interactions. This research activity involves an integrated methodological approach that includes morphological, molecular and ecological analyzes
