Biography
Roberto Mantovani was born in Padova at 19/03/1961. He is graduated in “Agricultural Science” and has received a Ph.D. degree in Animal Science.Employed as researcher since 1993, he is at present full Professor at the Department of Agronomy Food Natural resources Animal and Environment (DAFNAE)-University of Padova, within the scientific area of “Animal breeding and genetics”.His formative activities have been mainly in the field of biometry, quantitative genetics, animal breeding, cattle reproduction and biotechnologies.The overall scientific production is supported by about 180 publications, including journal papers and proceedings of national and international congresses.Roberto Mantovani is enrolled by the Italian Ministry of agriculture and forestry as expert of animal breeding and genetics in the boarding committee for the genetic improvement of two autochthon Italian cattle breed (Rendena and Valdostana) and one autochthon horse breed (Italian Heavy Draft Horse).The present main research themes are: 1) studies on genetic evaluation of cattle for milk and meat productions and for linear type traits; 2) studies on the protection of small cattle and equine breed and on the exploitation of products obtained from these breeds; 3) studies on genomic applied to genetic improvement and animal products; and 4) studies on genetic improvement, reproduction and management of equine.
