Biography
Ettore Novellino , born in Montemarano (AV) on August 15, 1950, graduated in Pharmacy in July 1974 with the highest marks and praise. After graduating, he started teaching and research at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Naples as: a) Holder of a check for didactic and scientific training from 1-5-1975 to 31-5-1978; b) Ordinary Assistant for Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry from 1-6-1978 to 4-8-1985; c) Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Toxicology II from 5-8-1985 to 31-10-1994; d) Ordinary Professor of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry from 1-11-1994 to this day; e) Head of the Pharmacy Faculty of the Federico II University of Naples from 1-11-2000 to 30 October 2006. f) Chair of the Conference of Presidents of the Faculty of Pharmacy in Italy from January 2003 to October 30, 2006. g) Director of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicology Chemistry of the University of Naples "Federico II" from November 1, 2007 to this day. h) Director of the CIRFF (Interdepartmental Research Center for Farmacoeconomics and Pharmacovigilance) of the University of Naples "Federico II", from November 1, 2007 to this day. i) Member of the National University Council for the Chemical Area from 2007 to date. j) Component of the Board of Directors of SINUT (Italian Society of Nutraceuticals). k) In 2009, prof. Ettore Novellino was awarded the Medal Pietro Pratesi 2009, acknowledging his expertise in computational chemistry and the position of national, internationally significant scientific relevance. Since 1986 the prof. Ettore Novellino has spent long periods of study abroad at highly qualified research centers. Among these are: 1) Department of Chemistry at Pomona College, Cleremont, California - USA; 2) Computerized Molecular Graphic Laboratory of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of San Francisco, California - USA; 3) Computer Graphics Laboratory of Abbott Laboratories, Chicago - USA; 4) the Computational Analysis Center of the Freie Universitat in Berlin; 5) Computational Structural Chemistry Center of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Zurich. In these study stays prof. Novellino has learned and applied the most sophisticated and modern computational analysis techniques applied to the study of drugs. Back in Italy, he has, in turn, organized a computational analysis laboratory devoted to the study of drug-receptor interactions and the design of new medicines, currently one of the most renowned nationally and internationally, where through the use of highly sophisticated computational methods and application softwares largely developed at the same laboratory, are being studied from a theoretical point of view and then applied new active drugs on the most common and disabling pathologies. In recognition of the interest and the results achieved in his research prof. Novellino has often been invited to hold conferences at National and International Conferences, among which two invitations to the Gordon Research Conferences (Frontiers of Sciences) held in 1991 and 1995 in the United States of America. In recognition of the expertise gained in computational chemistry, applied to drug design, since January 1999, prof. Novellino was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modeling, and Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, two of the world's most prestigious magazines, specializing in pharmaceutical and computational chemistry. The scientific production of prof. Novellino has come to life in more than three hundred and fifty works published in highly qualified international journals . From 1988 to 1997 the prof. Novellino was a member of the CUN Advisory Committee for Merit Evaluation and Funding of National Research Valuation Projects submitted under MURST funds 40%. In the period 1996-2009 the prof. Ettore Novellino coordinated the Expert Committee for Evaluating Scientific Research Projects, provided by the Campaign Law 41/94 and 5/2202. By Ministerial Decree No. 12 of January 26, 2001 of the Minister of University and Scientific and Technological Research, prof. Novellino was appointed for 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 as a component of the Guarantee Commission for the Evaluation and Selection of National Interest Research Research Programs ( PRINs) .
