Biography
Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, 14 / S - CLASS 14 / S of specialization degrees in Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy, obtained on July 29, 2003 at the University of Naples "Federico II" with 110/110 votes. The title of his experimental thesis was "Designing new therapeutic agents capable of antagonizing the phenomenon of cocaine-seeking behavior ". · Ph.D. in Pharmacy Science obtained on December 19, 2006 at the University of Naples "Federico II". The title of his research project was "Designing New Anti-Infectious Agents for the Treatment of Malaria and Infections Caused by the HIV and HCV Virus".
Research Interest
Dr. Persico's research activity lies in the field of computational techniques designed to design new drugs, with particular reference to the study and rationalization of the molecular mechanism of action. Over the last few years, Dr. Persico's research has focused on: (i) identification of small molecules capable of influencing protein functions by interfering with their conformation and / or protein-protein interactions; ii) the role of metal-biology in the pathologies and mechanism of action of drugs; iii) Natural compounds as lead-compound for the design of new drugs. The current areas of interest in which the aforementioned competences are applied concern the resistance to chemotherapy in antitumor therapy and the search for new antimalarial drugs.
